From: Inhibition of human lung cancer cell proliferation and survival by wine

Effect of red wine on thymidine incorporation in A549 NSCLC cells. A549 cells were deprived of serum for 24 h then incubated with (A) the indicated wine concentrations, (B) without (control) or with 5% wine or 1.1 μM resveratrol or ethanol (to match the ethanol concentration in the cells exposed to 5% wine), (C) without (control) or with 5% wine or 50 μM of quercetin, catechin, epicatechin or resveratrol, (D) without (control) or with 5% wine, 1 mM metformin or 25 nM rapamycin for 24 h at 37°C. Cells were washed and [3H]thymidine incorporation was measured as indicated in the Methods. The results are the mean ± SE of 4 independent experiments performed in triplicate and expressed as percent of control. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01 vs. control.
